The project is an 800 square foot 'secondary unit' built in the city of Spring Valley under the jurisdiction of the county of San Diego. The county will allow secondary units as long as space and code requirements are met. |
The foundation is in and the framing has begun. |

The framing is a little further along and here we see the front porch overhang which is duplicated on the rear, expanding the living area into the two outdoor areas. |
The standoffs have been installed on the garage roof for the future 2400 Watt solar system which will provide approx. 90% of the home's electrical power. |

You can see the solar panels in this picture. The homeowners decided to create an all electric home and the panels are projected to provide 90% of the homes electricity. |
Here's a little better view of the solar panels. When this picture was taken, around 3PM in mid February, the electric meter was spinning backwards! |

The power disconnect and the power inverter for the solar system along side a sub-panel that services the exterior carport. The inverter takes the DC voltage that comes directly from the solar panels and inverts it into AC current that can be fed back to the grid when the panels are producing more power than the residence is consuming. This inter connection with the grid gives this type of system its name as a 'grid tie' system. |
